Hungama Opts Open Source to drive scalability and lower TCO

Red Hat, Inc. the leading provider of open source solutions, announced that Hungama Digital Media Entertainment, and aggregator, developer, publisher and distributor of Hindi language films and South Asian entertainment content has opted Red Hat for its new platform solution to deliver value added services with a much lower total cost of ownership (TCO).

Hungamawantedtoprovidemanagedservicesforcontentprovidersandtelecommunications(telecom)companiesfortheirvalue-added services (VAS) management. One of its clientsa large, new European telecomoffers affordable mobile services to communities across
India.

Thecompanysexistingmiddlewarecouldnotkeepupwiththenewdemandsandexponentialgrowth.Intodayshighlycompetitivetelecomindustry,Hungamaneededtonotonlyscaleouttomeettheneedsofmillionsofsubscribers,butmustalsoquicklydeployapplicationstohelpattractandretaincustomers.

Akeybenefitofthenewsetupisitsscalability.Thepreviousarchitecturecouldnotscaletomeettheexpansionplans.Thenewimplementationisdesignedtobehorizontallyscalableandiscapableofsupportingmanymorecustomerssimplybyaddingmorehardware.

Thetelecomoperatorcannowdelivernewandmodifiedservicesfasterandbetter,withashortertimetomarket.CustomerscanaccessservicesfarmoreefficientlythroughtheservicelayerusedbytheVASandcontentproviderstoaddnewproductsveryquicklycomparedtoprevioussolutions.

Thetotalcostofthenewsolutionis10per cent of the total cost of the previous solution. ByadoptingarevenuesharingmodelwithHungama,whichbuilttheinfrastructureandmanagestheapplications,theEuropeantelecomoperatorhasachievedamuchlowertotalcostofownership(TCO).
