A bug in the anti-virus update software from Symantec Corp is said to have caused PCs at about 300 corporate customers and about 60 consumers late last week.
As per a report on Reuters.com, "Symantec disclosed the problem on its website, saying that an update to its widely used Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1 and Norton anti-virus software for businesses caused some PCs running Microsoft Windows XP software to crash repeatedly, showing what is known as the 'blue screen of death'."
The Reuters cites analysts as expressing concerns over the company's ability to execute in the face of growing competition.
According to the article, Symantec is said to blame the glitch on software compatibility issues after an update was release around the middle of last week. The company is understood to have issued an advisory, saying that the bug-affected PCs could be fixed if customers manually removed the faulty software from each of their PCs.
