Rethinking the Risks

There is excitement about new technologies such as BYOD and cloud computing, but there are certain risks as well

BT recently commissioned a study to examine current priorities in corporate IT security. This included exploring the key themes of "bring-your-own-device" (BYOD), cyber-security and on-demand services
delivered through cloud computing; and looking at the contrasting views and expectations of employees with plans and priorities of IT decision-makers in enterprises across public and key private sectors.

The study was conducted by Vanson Bourne in March/April 2012, covering four audience types in large organisations: office workers, IT decision makers, finance decision makers, and HR decision makers.

Titled Rethink the Risk, the study brought to light some interesting points, such as:

* There's a pressure to take advantage of new technologies to enhance productivity and competitive advantage

* IT departments see the risks, but are struggling to manage them within their established corporate security framework

* Employees leaking data, BYOD and a mobile workforce are in the same threat league as cyber-security
