Wipro completes largest e-gov project in India

Project Panchdeep for Employees' State Insurance Corporation touches the lives of 6 crore people

Wipro Infotech, the India, Middle East and Africa, IT business unit of Wipro Ltd and a leading provider of IT and business transformation services, has announced the successful implementation of the Employees' State Insurance Corporation's (ESIC) Project Panchdeep, a healthcare administration program aimed at automating healthcare services to over 6 crore beneficiaries spread across the country.

The largest e-governance program to date, Project Panchdeep provides online facilities to employers and insured people for registration, payment of premium and disbursement of cash benefits. It also automates medicare services to all insured people.

This has not only brought in complete transparency in the system, it has empowered the stakeholders like never before. Each day close to 75 thousand people are benefiting from Project Panchdeep.

The IT rollout has made it possible for Employers to file Monthly Contribution, Generate TICs and register new Employers, etc., from anywhere and anytime. Insured people can now get Medical benefits through Pehchan card anywhere across ESI locations. The project includes other modules like HR, Finance and General Administration programs all of which have been rolled out at all ESIC locations pan-India, thus increasing the operational efficiency of ESIC.

While a few modules were rolled out in May 2010, most of the modules were operational by December 2010. In January 2011, the module relating to Monthly Contribution by Employers started functioning across the country and by November 2011 the Online payment of Monthly Contribution through Internet Banking using the State Bank of India portal and payment gateway was available across the country.

Project Panchdeep will allow insured people to avail of medical services at any ESIC facility across India. With each Insured Person being given two biometric cards (one for himself and one for his family), family members can avail medical services even when the Insured Person is away at another location. The solution has also enabled automation, resulting in faster processing of claims, increased operational efficiency and improved decision making.
