Post the launch of Tier IV datacentre by Tulip Data City on February 6, and CtrlS earlier in December last year, IT Managers feel that it is essential for any company to opt for a Tier IV datacentre rather amongst others.
Sharing his views on the Tulip Tier IV datacenter, one of the IT managers, Sandeep Walia, Asst GM (IT), HT Media Ltd says, "Even though the only difference between Tier III and Tier IV datacentre is in the uptime and redundancy, still no company can afford downtime today. Be it a manufacturing, retail, media or banking all of them today need their operations on a 24x7 mode. So if it a media or banking firm, it works even better for them."
The IT managers seem to have been evaluating options of leveraging Tier IV datacenters. Balaranjith T, GM (IT), Atul Ltd says, "Presently our DR site is located close to the factory in Gujarat. However, with Tulip and CtrlS offering Tier IV datacentres, we are evaluating the option of relocating after working out the cost structure and total cost of ownership."
"We had offers from some companies in the US offering similar facilities earlier but prefer to host it out of India," adds Balaranjith.
Be it a manufacturing, textile, retail, BFSI, Media or any other industry, Tier IV has become essential for any industry vertical. The Tier IV data centre from Tulip Data Centre Services Pvt. Ltd. is a 100 per cent subsidiary of Tulip Telecomm, claimed to be the Asia's third largest datacentre in Bengaluru which was inaugurated by Sachin Pilot, Minister of State for Communication and IT.
Speaking at the launch, Lt Col HS Bedi, Chairman & Managing Director, Tulip Telecom Ltd. said, Large enterprises like IBM and HP are partnering with Tulip progressively through this datacentre as they see cost optimisation and complete security of their mission critical data. We believe that with this datacentre facility, our customers are assured that Tulip will fulfill their needs pertaining to data management and date security.
The company has roped in IBM, HP as customers and will be offering customers both Tier III and Tier IV datacentres but the only catch is an additional cost of 60% over Tier 111, adds Bedi.
In fact, reports indicate that Tier IV datacentre is considered most robust and less prone to failures. Tier IV is designed to host mission critical servers and computer systems, with fully redundant subsystems (cooling, power, network links, storage etc) and compartmentalized security zones controlled by biometric access controls methods.
The Tulip Data City is a multi-tiered facility built to Tier IV and Tier III standards. Large hosted datacentre facilities such as this one are multi-tenanted, and because of the scale, are far more efficient than smaller facilities, therefore saving huge amounts of power. Being the most green and the most power efficient datacentre in India, the facility is expected to save close to 35 MW power at full capacity. This because of an extremely high Power Utilization Efficiency (PUE) of around 1.5 compared to the industry average of over 2.
The company has been implementing aggressive sales and marketing programme to achieve its target of booking 25%capacity by the end of FY12.
The company has teamed with industry leaders like IBM, HP, Cisco, EMC, Schneider Electric, Emerson, Panduit and Corning among others to build the facility. Schnabel of Germany was the design review consultant for the data center. This data center is built to meet the LEED Gold Standards.
