It was in CommunicAsia 2011 in Singapore that Huawei showed off its flagship tablet, the MediaPad. The device is expected to start retailing from October this year. The 7-inch Android 3.2 Honeycomb tablet could carry a price tag of less than Rs 25,000. The price tag is expected to be significantly higher than what Indian companies like Beetel and Reliance are charging for their tablets.
The MediaPad is a solidly built tablet whose chassis appears to be made from a single piece of metal, not unlike the unibody design found in HTC phones such as the Desire HD. The device runs on Google's Android 3.2 version, which is designed specifically to run on a 7-inch tablet. It is 10.5 mm thick and weighs at 390 grams.
Powered by a Qualcomm dual-core 1.2Ghz processor, MediaPad is expected to offer a great visual experience for photos, movies and applications. It can easily playback 1080p high-definition video. There is a 5-megapixel camera at the rear and a 1.3-megapixel camera in the front.
We also have a micro-USB port alongside an HDMI-out at the base. There is a 3.5 mm audio output, together with a pair of speaker grills at the top. The battery life is expected to be more than six hours.
Victor Xu, chief marketing officer of Huawei, said, With the Huawei MediaPad, we are demonstrating yet again that design, functionality and performance are within anyone's reach. The 7-inch tablet remains the preferred size for portability and Android Honeycomb 3.2 is dedicated to enhance the full potential of 7-inch tablets. Huawei is very pleased to be the first to offer this package to consumers globally.
