In coming weeks, it will become possible for users to post Hindi tweets on Twitter. A new post on the companys official blog says, After launching Hindi, Filipino, Malay and Simplified and Traditional Chinese in the coming weeks, Twitter will support 17 different languages.
In India both Twitter and Facebook have a huge following. Facebook already offers its services in Hindi and five other Indian languages - Tamil, Malayalam, Punjabi, Telugu and Bengali. It has been estimated that Twitter has more than 200 million registered users all over the world.
Twitters blog says, More than half of them log in to Twitter each day to follow their interests. For many, getting the most out of Twitter isnt only about tweeting: 40 percent of our active users simply sign in to listen to whats happening in their world. Twitters global reach gives a voice to people around the world and as far away as the International Space Station.
Global leaders, film personalities, journalists and sports people, including Indian cricketers, Bollywood stars and some politicians are among the diverse Twitter users. According to Twitter, Thirty-five global heads of state use Twitter as a primary way to communicate with their constituencies, from @JuliaGillard in Australia to Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, @CFKArgentina. In the United States, frequent Tweeters include every Cabinet agency, 84 percent of state governors, and every major candidate for President.
