Banking, service providers, government, and manufacturing are primary adopters of UC applications, notes the researcher

The goal of Unified Communications (UC) is to embed communications into business processes to deliver quicker and better decision making, to enhance collaboration across geographically diverse teams, and to improve overall efficiency to make enterprises more agile and competitive.

There is an imperative need for effective convergence of various modes of communication; this need for convergence is also driven by the necessity to streamline business processes in line with latest collaboration technologies.

The 2011 Indian UC market showed an increase in awareness of emerging trends in the industry like Social Collaboration, Virtualization, Cloud Communication, and Mobile Conferencing. The overall spending on UC in India has been estimated at $522.7 million in 2011. The extent to which these applications were put to use by enterprises showed a good y-o-y improvement over 2010. Currently, maximum deployment has been witnessed among large enterprises Banking, Service Providers, Government, and Manufacturing are the primary adopters of UC applications.

To discuss implementation of successful UC solutions and tackle associated challenges, the Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) Practice of Frost & Sullivan will be hosting its 3rd Annual South Asia Unified Communications Summit 2012 in Mumbai, Bangalore, and Delhi on September 11, 13, and 18, respectively. The key areas of discussion are UC Applications moving on Cloud and Unlocking Business Value with UC. The Summit would conclude with a panel discussion on Enterprise Social Networking and Security/Productivity.

According to Parminder Saini, Industry Manager, ICT Practice, Frost & Sullivan, South Asia and Middle East, Most enterprises have transitioned from legacy to pure IP-based communication systems. Real-time and multi-modal communications have facilitated adoption of various on-premise applications, and we now see the movement in adoption of cloud-based UC solutions. The 3rd Annual South Asia Unified Communications Summit 2012 would look at various technology choices for business collaboration that are available to enterprises and how to bring this innovation directly to the users workplace, on his/her device.
