NEXT100 2017 Awards event summary

The eighth edition of NEXT100, an awards program from IT Next, took place in Amritsar on 1-2nd December, where we identified and honored India’s top 100 Senior IT Managers with skills, leadership qualities, and the spirit to become CIOs.
 
On a wintry morning of December 1 2017, over 150 delegates gathered in Amritsar to celebrate the success of 100 Indian IT leaders. The occasion was the felicitation of 100 IT leaders in a grand NEXT100 Awards ceremony. The two-day event was inundated with a lot of excitement and activity.
 
R Giridhar, Group Editor at IT Next, welcomed the delegates to the NEXT100 event. He talked how over the years, the NEXT100 awards program has influenced the lives and careers of hundreds of IT professionals. 
Shubhra Rishi, Associate Editor, IT Next, host of NEXT100, took the audience through the agenda for two days. 
 
The event kickstarted with an interesting panel titled ‘Getting Ready to be a CIO’ comprising all past NEXT100 winners namely Keyur Desai, CIO- Essar Ports & Shipping, Head Info-Security, Network & Communications- Essar, Bharat B Anand, Chief of Technology, NATGRID, Ministry of Home Affairs, GOI, Deepak Aggarwal, Executive Director - Corporate IT, Indian Oil and Ashok Jade, CIO, Shalimar Paints (R).  The panelists discussed the challenges and opportunities that the CIO role brings. They shared their experiences with a house full of audience comprising NEXT100 2017 winners.
 
The panel was followed by sessions on cloud by Mohit Pande, Country Head - India, Google Cloud. There were other interesting technology briefing sessions by Avinash Joshi, General Manager - Global Technology Services, IBM India & South Asia, Nilesh Kulkarni, Solution Architect, QlikTech India, and Ashish Sud, Head - Western Region, Sophos. Each session was interspersed with Tweet contest questions. 
 
The panel was followed by briefing sessions are three roundtable sessions held simultaneously. They were hosted by Shaista Aliya, Customer Engineer, Google Cloud and moderated by 9.9 Media Associate Editor, Shubhra Rishi, Rushikesh Chitre, Senior Manager Technical Support & Pre-sales, Escan and moderated by Vikas Gupta, Director and Publisher, IT Next, and Avinash Joshi, General Manager, GTS, IBM India & Dinesh Sharma and moderated by Director- Community Engagement, 9.9 Media, Sachin Mhashilkar.
 
The evening was a celebratory affair. Decked in business formals, the winners awaited their turns to be felicitated with the NEXT100 trophy and citation. 
 
Vikas Gupta, Publisher & Director, 9.9 Media welcomed the winners and jury to the ceremony. They listened intently as Vikas Gupta, Publisher & Director, 9.9 Media, gets nostalgic about the NEXT100 Awards and narrated a touching story about a former winner. 
 
The evening keynote session was delivered by VS Parthasarthy, Group CFO & CIO, Mahindra & Mahindra. Parthasarthy captivated the audience with his session titled 'The Future Role of the CIO' that was immersed in Indian mythology. It was followed by a leadership talk by Mohit Pande, Country Head – India, Google Cloud.
 
The ceremony would have been incomplete without an entertaining performance by Bhangra and Gidda folk troupe from Amritsar.  It was followed by winner, jury and partner felicitation. Ninety-five winners were felicitated the grand award ceremony of NEXT100 Awards 2017.
 
Shyamanuja Das, Managing Editor, IT Next felicitated and presented mementos to the jury members. There were a total of 55 jury members who vetted the candidates during the NEXT100 Awards selection process. 
 
Sachin Mhashilkar, Director Community Engagement, IT Next, thanked the partners and presented mementos to them. 
 
The Day two of NEXT100 event commenced with an early morning visit to the Golden Temple and Jalianwala Bagh. The NEXT100 team presented the NEXT100 winners and jury members with photo frames containing their winning photograph, certificates, and a lot of other gifts. 
 
The Day 2 agenda kicked off with a riveting session by NEXT100 Winner 2010 Deepak Agarwal, Executive Director - Corporate IT, IOCL. He shared his vision and perspective on nextgen CIOs. It was an inspiring session that presented his views on the current expectations from IT leaders of today. 
 
It was followed by Ideas Cafe session in progress where jury and partners Google, Sophos, eScan sprearheaded a few groups. It was hosted by R Giridhar, Group Editor, IT Next.
 
 Vikas Gupta, Publisher and Director at IT Next announced the rules of the case study session. and assigned the case studies to respective teams. They worked on the case study solution and presented their cases. 
 
One team namely Team 5 emerged as the Winner of the case study workshop. They won the Jury Choice award as well as the Popular Choice award. The team comprised Prasan Lotlikar, Technical Program Manager, Amazon, Vineet Love, Manager - Technology, KPMG, Sudhir Vijayakumar Madhugiri, Client Technology Director, Thomson ReutersSankar Makkapati, Senior Vice President - IT, CADD Centre Training Services, Manish Malik, General Manager - IS, IOCL,Kaushik Mamania, Vice President - Engineering, UFO Moviez India, Santosh Mankar, Assistant Vice President, SBI LifeAniruddha Mehta, Head - Quality Informatics, Alembic Pharmaceuticals, and Rahul Mehta, Senior Solution Architect - Security, LTI.
 
It was followed by a prize distribution and lucky draw by our partners, IBM and Sophos. Our IT Next team also gave away prizes to tweet contest winners.
 
All in all, the event ended on a high note with a closing note by Vikas Gupta, Publisher and Director at IT Next.
