'Cloud Marketplace' Represents IBM's Next Step in Cloud Journey

Vamsicharan Mudiam, Country Manager, Cloud Solutions, IBM India/South Asia talks about why IBM combines SaaS based apps, platforms and third party services

The new IBM cloud marketplace launched recently is meant to offer an easy experience for three key user groups in  the enterprise – IT managers, developers, and business leaders to buy services from IBM and its global partner ecosystem all in one.

In a recent survey of over 800 cloud buyers, IBM identified a group of companies which are high cloud adopters –and which are also achieving superior financial success.  These “pacesetters” are using cloud to do three important things:  reinvent customer relationships, use analytics extensively to drive better decisions, and collaborate effectively across their extended ecosystems.  It was from these important findings that IBM’s work on the Marketplace emerged.

How this will spur innovation
The IBM Cloud Marketplace brings together a wealth of IBM and business partner services and tools – all delivered online, as a service – designed to help organizations become composable businesses:

Reinvent customer relationships – From mobile messaging for marketing, to customer cross-channel behavior insight, to shopper insights – and beyond – the Marketplace provides easy access to a suite of IBM and business partner tools that enable organizations to get closer to their customers.

Use analytics to drive better decisions – Turning data into actionable insights is an imperative for all organizations, and tools like Analytical Decision Management, Social Media Data Analysis, and Cross-channel Analytics provide the means to do so – all within the unified Marketplace experience.

Collaborate across their ecosystems for greater speed to market -  We hear it repeatedly: collaboration is key.  With tools like Business Process Collaboration, Social Business Collaboration, and Customer and Business Partner Collaboration Network, the IBM Cloud Marketplace enables collaboration across and beyond your organization.

What IBM Expects from this change
”This is about investing in high-growth, high-value areas,” says Mudiam.  “There is significant opportunity in driving new value for our clients –and new growth for IBM – as we help our clients innovate in the emerging area of hybrid clouds,” adds Mudiam.

Clients will continue to demand both on-premise and Cloud solutions and will pay a premium for innovation and differentiation. This initiative goes well beyond the intent of ibm.com, which primarily functions as a place for clients and prospective clients to learn about IBM’s capabilities within and beyond cloud.  By contrast, the newly released IBM Marketplace, although an extension of ibm online is designed to address the specific needs of cloud buyers and users by delivering a vast array of IBM and business partner capabilities as a service.
