Visual COBOL Helped OM Logistics Move Towards Mobile and Cloud Development

Moved their ‘Track & Trace’ application from Server Express to Visual COBOL which improved development efficiency by 30%

OM Logistics’ IDE of choice was Eclipse and they wanted to enhance their mission-critical applications on a new business platform –so they moved their ‘Track & Trace’ application from Server Express to Visual COBOL which has improved development efficiency by 30%.

This COBOL-based Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, built using Micro Focus Server Express, supports the company’s core business modules, including accounting, reporting, warehousing, HR and payroll as well as consignment tracking.

With Visual COBOL now in place, future and planned initiatives – including the development of a mobile and PHP application interface, powered by proven, back-end
COBOL applications – can hit the launchpad. Visual COBOL’s philosophy of ’re-use not rewrite’ has enabled OM Logistics to progress its existing COBOL business
rules to take advantage of new modern technologies, such as PHP.

“We now have a new, more flexible and cost-effective platform for development and we can support new interfaces and technologies quickly and easily. It was a win-win situation for us moving to Visual COBOL.”--S.K. Goel, Vice President of Information Technology, OM Logistics.
