Business analytics, which was on a test drive mode an year back is no longer on the same trail, but has become a must have kind of solution by the enterprises along with the business intelligence tools.
Manoj Pradhan, Head Technology, Operations & Manufacturing IT (South Asia) at Pernod Ricard observes that analytics has passed the test and is successfully being embedded into the business processes by the enterprises as they look for a 360 degree analytics including man, machine and the process.
“As business gets more challenging, it is expected that every process or equipment sends required alert to the various teams at various intervals and this calls for a successful business analytics solution,” says Pradhan.

A K Singh, Additional General Manager (Management Services) at Krishak Bharati Co-operative Limited drives the point that business analytics is required one or two years after Enterprise system (ERP) is successfully implemented. And the functional utility of BI and analytics can be realised only when relevant data is available..
Singh admits that most often the users who deploy analytics start creating MIS reports without identifying appropriate historical data which would result in failure sometimes in terms of determining accurate data and results.
“Management or the business functions would appreciate only when their dashboard can give what they need and this comes through analytics after the ERP process is established,” says Singh.
According to him, analytics is not on a test drive but is in the final stage of meeting user requirement.
Ashok Jade, CIO at Shalimar Paints agrees that business analytics has become “Must have” requirement across enterprises. “I don’t think there is any second thought on this among the top management, but when it comes to taking investment decision on multiple systems, it gets into a discussion or debate if BI and analytics need to be positioned across multiple priorities..

However questions such as, what to implement first -- Sales Force Automation on Mobile Platform or Biz Analytics or APO, does BI make sense without these systems in place? And so on, may create certain ambiguity in understanding if analytics is still on a test drive, but the fact is it not so, says Jade.
“Many times it is felt that BI implementation without excellent transaction system with full proof and tightly integrated processes will be of no use. However; second thought is – BI will tell you all loop holes of your system and process which will ultimately improve your transaction systems,” avers Jade and according to him, if the company has reasonably good transaction system in place then it must go for BI so that analytics would not only help to improve transaction system but will also support in good decision making process,” points Jade.
