Fullerton Records 45% Savings with Intel Xeon

Moving from RISC to Xeon has helped in availing Intels support and knowledge skills

Fullerton India Credit Company Limited, one of Indias
leading Non-Banking Finance companies (NBFC)
decided to migrate from a non-Intel processor to Intel
XeonE7545 2 x 2.0 GHz processor at 18 GB higher
storage per server.
The objective behind this initiative is Loan Origination
platform, which is the lifeline for Fullertons business
verticals has a high demand on uptime / availability along
with end user demands of quick TATs. Managing the user
processing load basis the scale of Fullertons business
migration path/solution was becoming a challenge.
Besides ensuring good savings on cost of operation
the company wanted to avail the benefits such as
lower cost of maintaining and upgrading their mission
critical environments and technological and security
advancements. It is said that Fullerton observed 45 per
cent savings with the Intel systems without a dip in
performance.
Elaborating on the project, Samir Khare, General
Manager & Head IT Business Solutions, Fullerton India
said Though moving from the RISC architecture to the
Intel platform provided a saving of about 45%, the bigger
advantage is the easy availability of skill sets around the
Intel platform. The support environment and the knowledge
base available enhances the overall usage experience of the
Intel platform and allows for easy maintainability
The trend towards enterprises moving from RISC UNIX
has been endorsed by IDC. In March 2012, IDC stated
that the RISC UNIXbased computing market has been
in decline across the region for many years now, with
end users transitioning to x86-based technologies for the
lower acquisition and management costs. All UNIX-based
operating systems, such as IBM's AIX, HP's HP-UX, and
TRU64, have been vulnerable to platform migration.
According to Intel sources, Xeon processor based
infrastructure would ensure better performance, reliability
and cost-of-ownership in addition to experiencing
significant business and IT benefits, along with lower
capital and operational costs and greater flexibility.
Although careful assessment and planning is important
to ensure a successful outcome, migration to Intel
Xeonprocessor-based infrastructure offers a foundation
for layering advanced cloud functionality and tends to cost
less than upgrading existing UNIX/RISC environments.
The source added.
According to Intel sources, scalable systems based on
Intel XeonE7 family processors provide robust support
for mission critical applications and advanced reliability,
availability and serviceability. Intel has integrated these
features into the silicon and system level to provide the data
integrity and system resilience required to support mission
critical environments.
