Obama hanging out on Google+? Why not!

Even as Indian politicians try to control social media, the US prez is willing to make things more connected and open

In what is billed as the first "completely virtual" interview from the White House, US President Barack Obama will answer questions that have been submitted by Americans all over the country via YouTube.

According to a White House blog post by Kori Schulman, "On Monday, January 30, the President will join a special Google+ Hangout from the West Wing. He'll be answering several of the most popular questions that have been submitted through YouTube, and some of the people who submitted questions will even be invited to join the President in the Hangout and take part in the live conversation."

The post mentions that the US prez is committed to "creating a system of transparency, public participation, and collaboration." Thats why, it goes on to say, President Obama and over 25 members of his administration will be responding to people's questions about his State of the Union speech (delivered on 24th Jan) all week and talking about the issues that matter most to them.

In some of its earlier attempts to make information more accessible to the people at large, the US House of Reps recently launched a website to provide legislative documents in machine-readable XML format and had also made available an iPad app, The Congressional Record.
