Sony will launch new Tablets in India this year

Sony has the tech-muscle to make a mark in Indian Tablet space, but the product has to be attractively priced.

Sony has declared today that it plans to introduce tablets in India in line with its competitors such as Samsung who have entered into the segment. Masaru Tamagawa, the Sony Managing Director, said, We are launching Sony tablets in India this year. It will happen simultaneously with the global launch.

However, Mr. Masaru Tamagawa has not given any details of the new Tablet except that it will use Android OS. The company has also declined to comment on the price points at which it plans to position its Tablet in the Indian market. Only last month Sony had announced that it is "developing two tablets, including S1 (codename), which is optimised for media entertainment and S2 (codename), which is ideal for mobile communication and entertainment".

Some analysts have come out with reports stating that the Tablet PC sales in India could touch one million mark during the next 12 months. In India, several companies have entered into the Tablet space. Sonys Tablet would be competing with the likes of Samsung's Galaxy Tab, Blackberry Playbook, Apple iPad, Motorola's Xoom and HTC 'Flyer'. Many Indian vendors have also come up with their Tablet PCs, which carry very low price tags.
