Can Amazon outsmart Apple in Tablet PC space?

Samsung, RIM, Motorola, HP and others have proved ineffectual in tablet space, but Amazon can be a serious contender.

It is certain that Amazon is going to release an Android based tablet by the end of this year, and it makes perfect sense to predict that this device will have a significant impact on the market. The biggest factor in Amazons favour is that the company has already sold millions of Kindles around the world. Every satisfied Kindle user can be a potential buyer of the new Amazon tablet. Amazon also has the capacity of challenging Apple by hugely undercutting the price.

According to analysts, Amazons tablet could take up to $300 to make, but the company could subsidise it by up to $50 in order to make the deal attractive to users. Amazon could still make a profit through movie rentals, music downloads, Kindle book sales, other application purchases and advertising. Apple currently retails its tablets at more than $500, it will find it difficult to cut down prices as its tablet and smartphone eco-system is geared to consume large amount of resources.

There are myriad reasons because of which the tablets launched by other companies have failed to make a dent on Apples market share. Samsungs device is good, but its form factor is not stylish enough. It is also mired by lawsuits. Motorolas tablet was plagued by software glitches and it was too costly. HP, with its webOS tablet, could not compete, as this device did not have the necessary ecosystem. Then there was the Playbook from RIM that was just too inconvenient for users.

No one should harbour any doubts over the fact that Amazon has keenly studied the reasons for which the tablets launched by all the non-Apple companies have failed. Amazon will not be making the same mistakes. While creating its Kindles during the last few years, Amazon has experimented with all kinds of price ranges, form factors, freebies for users and features. The research and development team that the company has created from ground up is nimble enough to take any challenge head on and come up with a winning product.

Amazon does not have to come up with an iPad like product to succeed in the market. In fact, it would be a big mistake if the company tried to copy the iPad. Perhaps the tablets by other vendors like Samsung, Motorola, RIM and HP have failed because they were too similar to iPad. There is room for only one iPad in the world, and that is Apples baby. Amazons tablet must focus on the core strengths of the Kindle hardware and software. What the company is expected to offer is Kindle Tablet.

All those who love reading books and magazines, are more likely to go in for the Amazon Kindle than the iPad. The concept of eBooks has struck a chord with many readers. It is most likely that the community of booklovers might decide to opt for Kindle Tablet, which is sure to have a great interface for reading books. Amazons huge library of eBooks is also going to serve the purpose of making its tablet attractive to booklovers.

The tablet from Amazon would incorporate the best features of two divergent worlds the world of kindle and the world of tablets. The Kindle tablet would be cheap; it would have top class touch related features and access to all kinds of apps. Another great advantage that Amazon seems to enjoy is that its cloud platform is vast enough to rival Apples iCloud. So it could provide all kinds of secure cloud based products to its users.

Basically, the users of Amazons tablet wont be left alone once they have purchased the device. They will enjoy seamless access to the Amazons cloud network from where they will be able to access all kinds of products and services at discounted rates.
