Does Your Salary Depend on Designation, Tenure, Experience or Nature of Employment?

Observations from ITNEXT study

One of the interesting observations that IT Next’s study made is that  compensation structure  heavily depended on the years of experience of the IT managers but what is more considerable for the hiring managers in terms of experience is the  stability of the job and the sustenance factor. Besides, it is not just about experience, but also about designation that they are concerned about.   The study found that in some cases, the IT managers have not witnessed any change in the their designation owing to several reasons.

The trend shows about 37 per cent of the IT Managers are in the current designation for less than 2 years whereas 36 per cent of the respondents have been working in the same designation for more than 2 years but less than 4 years. About 14 per cent of the respondents have been in the current designation for more than 4 years and same percentage of respondents have not got promoted for more than 6 years.

About 16 per cent of the IT Managers are working in the same organisation between 4 to 6 years whereas 40 per cent of the respondents reflect more stability as they have been working in the same firm for more than 6 years. 20 per cent of the respondents have been found little unstable as they have two or less than 2 years of stay in the current organisation whereas 24 per cent of them have stuck to the same organisation for between 2 – 4 years.

When it comes to experience, which plays a crucial role in determining the  hike, bonus and promotion seems to have no relevance to the compensation structure. About 15 per cent of the respondents have an experience of 6 – 10 years, only 2 per cent of the respondents fall in the bracket of junior managers or freshers who have less than 5 years.

The most significantly contrast looking data would be the nature of employment. About 98 per cent of the respondents are on permanent rolls of the company whereas 1 per cent each comprise of consultants deployed on-site by business partners and contract employees or full time consultants.

The exposure and scope in the current role for most IT Managers in a single company as it stands at 33 per cent whereas only 5 per cent of them have regional international scope in multiple companies. About 26 per cent of the respondents are in single company and handle a single country.
