Before the mass murders, he Facebooked, Twitted

Many killers have started revealing the working of their mind at sites like Facebook and Twitter.

As the shocked Norwegians try to come to terms with one of the deadliest attacks in the country, one that has claimed almost 100 lives, a psychological profile of the killer has started to emerge. Cops have identified 32-year-old Anders Behring Breivik, as a right-wing fundamentalist. His acquaintances describe him as a gun-loving Norwegian obsessed with what he saw as the threats of multiculturalism and immigration from other cultures.

He was also an avid user of social networking sites. His updates on YouTube, Facebook and Twitter give us a clue to the working of his mind. It has come to light that his Facebook page and Twitter accounts were set up under his name days before the rampage. The Facebook page cites philosophers like Machiavelli, Kant and John Stuart Mill.

The video that he had left on YouTube before going on a killing spree says, If the multiculturalist elites of Europe continue to refuse to voluntarily transfer political and military power to our conservative revolutionary forces ... then [the second world war] is likely going to appear as a picnic compared to the coming carnage

His Facebook page describes him as "single" and a "Christian" and lists serial killer drama Dexter as one of his favourite TV shows. He has also left a post naming the vampire show True Blood among TV programmes he likes. He lists the cartoon show He-Man among his choice watches as well as violent films Gladiator and 300. While mentioning his political views, he lists himself as a conservative. Many of his rants are focussed on multiculturalism.

Most bizarrely, in his Twitter page he has left just one message posted on July 17. The message says, One person with a belief is equal to the force of 100,000 who have only interests. This is a quote from the famous philosopher, J.S. Mill. Anders Behring Breivik is also alleged to have posted a 1500 page manifesto on the web hours before the attacks that claimed close to 100 lives. In the manifesto, he claims to be a part of a small group that intended to seize political and military control of Western European countries and implement a cultural conservative political agenda.

According to sources, the document also describes a secret meeting in London in April 2002 to reconstitute the Knights Templar, a Crusader military order. It says that nine representatives of eight European countries attended the meeting. Evidently Anders Behring Breivik was present in the meeting. He also reveals that three other members were unable to attend. One of the absentees included a European-American.

He has not indicated in his posts on the social networking sites that he planned to go on a violent rampage, but he has certainly given a glimpse of his obsessive and paranoid state of mind. Investigations are currently on, and it will be a while before we are able to find out what made this 32-year-old man go on a killing spree.
