Motorola Droid 3 to hit US markets on July 14

With Droid 3, Motorola is sending the message that it is eager to shed the tag of also ran in the smartphone race.

On July 14, Motorola’s Droid 3 will make its debut in USA, where it will be available for $199.99 to those who opt for a two-year contract with Verizon Wireless. Those who wish to avoid being tied up with any service provider can go in for the unlocked SIM free version at the price of $460.

The much anticipated full QWERTY smartphone comes with Android 2.3 Gingerbeard operating system, and supports a 4-inch qHD capacitive touchscreen display with 16 million colours and 540 x 960 pixels resolution. It runs on a dual-core 1Ghz Texas Instrument OMAP 4430 processor. There is 512MB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, which marks an improvement from 8GB in case of Droid 2. The memory is expandable up to 32GB.

Adobe Flash Player 10 comes pre-loaded. On the back of the device we have 8 mega pixels rear camera, with LED flash and 8x digital zoom, that is capable of recording high definition (1080p) videos at 30fps. To facilitate video calling there is a camera at the front end. The device can work with both CDMA and GSM networks. There is a HDMI port to enable output to be transported to other HD displays.

Motorola is yet to announce the date at which the Droid 3 will hit the Indian markets. The price for India is also not announced.
