The ongoing legal dispute over patents between the two tech giants, Apple and Samsung, has now started affecting their business ties. According to sources, Apple is now seriously considering the idea of dropping Samsung as a vendor for the next-generation of A6 processors that will go into iPhone, iPad and many other devices from the company. As of now Samsung has been one of the biggest suppliers of memory chips to Apple. The A4 and A5 chips that go into the iconic iPhone and iPad devices have all been created by Samsung.
If the rumoured divorce with Samsung goes through, then Apple could opt for a relationship with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC). TSMC might be building the next generation of chips that will go into future Apple devices. The dispute between the two companies took off in April this year, when Apple sued Samsung, alleging that the Galaxy products were built by slavishly imitating the design and technologies that were used in iPad and iPhone. Samsung retaliated with its own series of lawsuits.
According to some analysts, there also exists the remote possibility that Apple might approach Intel for the manufacture of its A6 processors on Intel's upcoming 22-nm, TriGate process technology.
