Greenpeace, around the world, has released a new campaign video calling on Facebook to stop using dangerous fuel.

Greenpeace, around the world, has released a new campaign video calling on Facebook to stop using dirty and dangerous fuel sources like coal and nuclear to power its services and for it to pledge to go green by this Earth Day on April 22.

According to Greenpeace, Facebook has changed the way the world communicates, and in some places, is governed. But the IT sector is the fastest growing in the world for energy use (about 2% of global emissions are from IT services) , and Facebook should be leading a charge toward green 21st century sources of renewable energy, not 19th century fuels like coal.

Both of Facebooks new data centers, each of which require power equivalent to about 40,000 US homes, run on coal power. Coal is the No. 1 contributor to climate change.

Over 680,000 people have joined the campaign to get Facebook to go green.
