The University of Delhi had launched an Android phone application before their admissions to give students information about the schedule, courses, colleges and other details. The app was well received by students and also gave out details on PG accommodation and hangout places.
Students at DU have also launched similar apps that give out informal information. 'Just DU Things' according to the app's co-creator Paras Jain has what a fresher would need for a "smooth and happening" campus life.
He explained "It is divided into five segments -- news, hangouts, jobs, internships, gossip and downloads. The app isn't just a document diary providing information about the notices or announcements made by the university, but also what a fresher looks forward to informally as in the hangout zones, information about cultural fests and much more".
Students using the apps were able to compare and contrast courses and colleges on the basis of several parameters including faculty and placement record. Once can also access an integrated Google map of the hangouts spot and eateries with their reviews at Zomato.com
'Zocalo' is another app that gives information about PG accommodation around the campus and other places. Their thinking is that for an out-station students a seat in a good college is as important as good and affordable accommodation.
