HTC plans eight new phones by September

The scorching competition in the market makes it necessary for companies to come up with more interesting models.

The Taiwanese handset maker, HTC, has announced that it will launch eight new mobile phones in Q3 this year, as the company looks to continue its momentum against increased competition. If the launches go as per planned, then the company might be able to sell more than 13.5 million phones in the third quarter.

So far 2011 has been an excellent year for HTC. The global brand, known for its smartphones, has been able to smash the previous quarterly records for sale of handsets with amazing ease. In its second quarter the company has exceeded industry expectations, with $600 million in profits on $4 billion in revenue.

The decision to release eight new devices is clearly a strategic move to help HTC compete against rivals like Apple and Samsung. It is well known that Apple is planning to launch its iPhone 5 in September. This device is expected to sell very well. Another company that HTC needs to be wary of is Samsung, whose Galaxy S2 is a serious player in the high-end Android phone market.

The HTC CEO Peter Chou said that the company would continue to focus on business in Asia and China. HTC is set to quadruple growth in Asian markets this year. So far Apple has played second fiddle to Android phone makers, but there are ample indications to suggest that Apple is eyeing a bigger slice of the Asian market. A cheaper entry level iPhone model is a distinct possibility.

As of now, there is no information on what type of phones HTC will be launching in September. Perhaps some of the devices would be Windows-based smartphones. The launch of the Windows Phone Mango OS is already round the corner. However, most of the new launches from HTC are likely to be Android based.

It is also worth noting that HTCs desire to sell a new set of devices comes at a time when the company is facing heat from the International Trade Commission over violating two of Apples smartphone patents. HTC has already appealed the ruling.
