In Essar Group, a multinational with business interests in steel, oil & gas, power, BPO and telecom, shipping, ports, and projects, plans to move over 90 per cent of its workforce to the Citrix XenDesktop platform. The group aims to complete the implementation of virtual desktops for 40,000 users in the next one year.
According to a company release, the solution utilizes a building-block approach which can then scale to thousands of virtual desktops delivering applications to any device in any workplace environment, supporting a rich user experience, and providing additional security and control to IT managers.
Trends such as IT consumerization, worker mobility, cloud computing and workshifting mean that more people are accessing enterprise desktops, applications and data from more places and in more ways than ever before.
Virtual computing is rapidly becoming a foundational element of the security strategy for organizations of all kinds. With Citrixs Desktop Virtualisation, Essar aims to reap the benefits of application virtualisation and streaming features for enabling faster responses to business requirements for applications.
The implementation of Citrix XenDesktop is also aimed to strengthen Essars Governance and Compliance initiatives by giving the capability to monitor, manage and restrict the applications on the VDI. The group also plans to roll out the Citrix XenDesktop and Citrix NetScaler solutions across the globe. Citrix XenDesktop and Citrix NetScaler with on-demand application delivery is expected to save the company more than 40% in desktop computing costs by enabling easy, centralized management of desktops and applications and reducing the need to refresh expensive hardware.
