Freescale is focusing on the Internet of Things (IoT) for the next level of growth. At the 9th edition of Freescale Technology Forum, they showcased wearable consumer devices, smart health devices, smart energy and smart city concepts based on IoT that describes an inter-connected world.
The IoT Wall showcased multiple products anddevices like Smart Watch, Smart Camera, Fitness Watch, Heart BeatTracker, Dog Tracker, Smart Meter, etc.
IoT is the evolution of decades of embedded processing solutions that have been improving the performance and adding intelligence to electronic devices around us. In 2010, the number of connected devices to the Internet exceeded the global population.
By 2020, it is predicted, by multiple sources, there willbe 50 billion devices connected to the Internet. As this growth trend accelerates, some are pointing to 1 trillion devices by 2025.
Addressing the opportunities in India & Asia, Dr Kai Wang, VP & GM Asia, Freescale said, ‘’India is already the power house of thesemiconductor industry, ranking second globally in terms of designrevenues. India is home to our largest design center outside the US. And the 1,000 design engineers here do not just serve local orregional customers, they are integral to our global design network. We have had great success in India and one of the key achievement hasbeen to power 3 million electronic voting machines during the 16th General Elections.”
He added, ‘Asia is now the world’s economic and semiconductor center, not only for manufacturing, but for consumption, design and innovationtoo. Our Asia indigenous revenues growth at 26% was way above theoverall industry performance. We have over 6000 patents that helps usposition appropriately for the new IoT market. Freescale partneredwith Foxconn for BMW Smart key project and also works with Amazon, Microsoft, Facebook and Baidu global on projects of IoT.”
