New Delhi: As per a study undertaken by internet security provider Symantec Corp, Indian companies havesuffered an average of Rs 58 lakh in revenue to cyber crimes and attacks in the year 2009.
The research titled 2010 State of Enterprise Security also brought out the point that over and above these revenue losses, Indian enterprises also lost an average of Rs 94.56 lakh in organisation, customer and employee data, and an average of Rs 84.57 lakh in productivity costs in 2009.
"Protecting information today is more challenging than ever. By putting in place a security blueprint that protects their infrastructure and information, enforces IT policies, and manages systems more efficiently, businesses can increase their competitive edge in todays information-driven world," Vishal Dhupar, Managing Director, Symantec India, said.
With the rate of attacks on the rise, cyber security topped the threat list of close to half of the Indian Enterprises. The companies more or less agreed that the nature of cyber attacks consisted of external threats as well as internal threats and negligence. Many reasons were cited for the difficulties faced in managing enterprising security. These included understaffing in departments such as network security, endpoint security, web security and data loss prevention, new IT initiatives intensifying security issues and IT compliance issues.
