India's GSM mobile subscribers base grew 0.88 per cent in August with the addition of over 5.34 million subscribers. Out of this, Idea Cellular alone signed over 2.3 million subscribers.
The total number of GSM subscribers in the country crossed 611.76 million in August as against 606.4 million the previous month, data released by Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) showed.
Bharti Airtel added over 1.15 million subscribers in August, a growth of 0.67 per cent over the previous month, to have a total of 171.85 million subscribers.
This was followed by Vodafone Essar, which added over 1.13 million subscribers, a growth of 0.79 percent, taking its total numbers to 144.14 million.
The operator has a market share of 23.56 per cent.
State-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, with 14.81 per cent market share, added 3,88,057 million subscribers, a growth of 0.43 per cent, taking its total subscriber base to 90.62 million.
