There have always been speculations about a smartphone from Facebook, now the company seems close to launching one.

With more than 750 million active users, Facebook enjoys a massive reach around the world. The usage pattern of many of the regular users shows that, people really want to let their friends know what they are up to even when they are not close to any computer. In other words, the mobile devices are fast becoming the gadget of choice when it comes to updating ones status on Facebook.

So it is natural that Facebook should have plans for a smartphone of its own. However, it is still not clear if the handsets themselves will carry the Facebook branding or not. It is being rumoured that in USA, the carrier for the new Facebook device could be AT&T. It has also been reported that Facebook is building an OS for its smartphone, and that might as well be true.

But it is certain that the phones will be using Googles Android OS. In order to make its smartphone succeed, Facebook will need to offer users access to lot of apps, so it cant do without Android OS. Facebook is yet to come up with a suitable name for its smartphone. According to Facebook, there are more than 250 million users currently accessing its services through their mobile devices.
