The countrys second largest telecom operator by subscribers, Vodafone India, has reported about 9% growth in revenue at 1.03 billion (Rs 7,518.2 crore) for the first quarter ended June 2011, compared to 0.95 billion (Rs 6,903.1 crore) in the corresponding period last year.
Vodafone Group Plc in its financial report said, Service revenues grew due to a 29.8 per cent increase in the customer base, stabilising mobile voice pricing in the market and 70.4 per cent growth in data revenue. During the June 30, 2011 quarter, Vodafone added 7 million new customers to take its total subscriber base to 141.5 million.
The higher revenues of Vodafone India are largely due to 6.8% jump in service revenues during the three months ended June. This was largely driven by a near 30% increase in the companys customer base, a 70.4% jump in data revenue and also because of the new found stability in mobile tariffs.
Vodafone data customers in India stood at 26 million as of June 30, this represents a year-on-year increase of 189%. The increasing popularity of data enabled smartphones is helping companies like Vodafone to enhance their revenues.
