In hope of finding more efficient production methods, the search engine giant has decided to shutter the doors permanently on Google Labs, its public access software development place. The move comes as a surprise as it seems to be against Googles long-standing policy of open-door experimentation by its own team and the public.
The post on Googles Blogspot page explains why the decision was taken: While we've learned a huge amount by launching very early prototypes in Labs, we believe that greater focus is crucial if we're to make the most of the extraordinary opportunities ahead.
Now the question is Labs products are going to survive? Well not everything will fade into oblivion. The Labs products that are Android apps will still be available on the Android Market. The Google CEO, Larry Page, has also recently eliminated Google Health and Google Power Meter.
