Aircels services deal goes to Ericsson, ZTE

Now there is a significant shift towards complex multi-vendor contracts in Indias telecom industry.

According to sources, Aircel has awarded its managed services deals to ZTE Corp. and Ericsson AB. ZTE has bagged three circles for managed services, whereas Ericsson AB has got six circles. Last year, the Chinese telecom gear maker, ZTE had won only one circle from Aircel, so this time the company has done better.

Traditionally most vendor deals in the country have included managed services as well. However, 3G telephony seems to have become the catalyst for movement towards multi-vendor deals.

For the remaining circles, Aircel is said to be in talks with Huawei and Nokia Siemens Networks. The Economic Times has earlier reported that Huawei was eyeing the four circles of Maharashtra & Goa, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala. That deal is believed to be valued in excess of $120 million and will also include upkeep of Key Performance Indicators (KPI) and Service Level Agreements (SLA).

Owned by Malaysias Maxis group, Aircel, runs 2G services across India and has bagged 3G airwaves in 13 circles in last years spectrum auctions.
