India has 3rd largest number of Opera Mini users

Indians are actively using their mobiles to access Facebook, online video and gaming portals.

The Norway based browser company, Opera, has issued a State of the Mobile Web report, in which it has taken look at booming mobile web traffic in India and how the Indian people choose to participate on the Web. According to this report, as far as Opera Mini browser goes, India has been the third largest market around the world between May 2010 and May 2011.

The report also states that within India, users with Opera Mini in their mobile phones, have become more active within the year. The number of pages accessed per Opera Mini browser has gone up from 390 to 430. The top ten list of websites visited by mobile users in India now includes two new names - Vuclip and Mobile2Day. This is indicative of the fact that users in India have now started flocking to mobile optimised sites.

Around the globe a total of 113.5 million people used the Opera Mini browser in May this year according to Opera. On a global basis 63.3 billion pages were served. In Latin American countries growth was quite strong in terms of Opera Mini users. Between May 2010 to May 2011, page views in the top 10 Latin American countries increased by 1556%, unique users increased by 535% and data transferred increased by 1041%.

The report also indicates that usage of Googles networking site Orkut is declining amongst Opera Mini users in India. Facebook is strongly growing in popularity.
