In While there have been many awards and recognitions in the IT function for individuals, there are none when it comes to identifying and honouring the best teams. Or lets say, there was none until last year.
IT Next and CIO& Leader magazines (published by 9.9 Media) got together to introduce the first Technology Premier League to the Indian IT market the industry's first unique model to identify and honour IT teams that have what it takes to solve complex technology problems and who do it with style and substance. Now, the third leg of TPL 2013 is held in Delhi with 22 IT teams participating in the challenge today.
To reiterate the process of the contest, CIOs from Indias top organisations, across industry verticals, are invited to nominate their IT teams. A separate site to handle the entire registration process was created at www.tpl2013.com. The process was rolled out in the month of March and within a few weeks the website was swamped with hundreds of applications from all over India. These were pruned, based on the completeness of information provided and application of eligibility criteria, as listed on the site.
Each team is given a business case study scenario and a set of challenges that they had to solve using certain technology stacks. To bring more variety to the contest, there was a set of three separate but similarly designed case studies. These were assigned based on random lots so as to keep the element of surprise and to ensure fair play.
An interesting element of the contest is the parallel tutorials on various technologies by the sponsoring vendors. Also, technical consultants are available on the spot to address the players queries, pertaining to the application of a technology to their respective business cases.
Each city will have an eminent panel of jury members drawn from across top corporate and consulting/advisory organisations.
All teams will be asked to make a quick presentation to the jury panel in Round One which was called the Elevator Pitch. Based on these presentations, the members of the jury will shortlist five teams in each city. These teams will further be invited to make detailed presentations in Round Two. In this round, along with the scores given by the jury, other teams could also vote for their favourite team through a secret ballot. These votes are taken into account and collated along with the scores given to the five teams by the jury members after detailed presentations in the second. These votes carry some weight in the overall score of the teams, though the major portion was accorded to the scores given by the jury members.
The winning team will get paid holiday trip to Las Vegas.
