Due to patent lawsuit filed by Apple Inc, Samsung Electronics has been forced to delay the Australian launch of its latest Galaxy tablet. This development comes as the two companies are still engaged in a tectonic struggle to defend their market share in the booming tablet market.
Since April, when Apple sued Samsung in a U.S. federal court in California, the legal tussle between the two companies has been building up. According to Apple, Samsungs Galaxy line of mobile phones and tablets infringe upon many patents owned by Apple.
Samsung is Apple's nearest rival in the fast-growing mobile device industry as it leverages its cost competitiveness and access to chips and core tablet components. Only last month, Samsung had launched the thinner and lighter version of its Galaxy tablet in its lucrative home market, trying to eat into blockbuster sales of Apple's iPad.
As far as the legal tussle is concerned, it seems as if Apple is gaining the upper hand. This is probably due to the obviousness of Samsungs rip-offs. Not only has Apple successfully halted the launch of the Tab 10.1, but Samsung has agreed to supply Apple with three examples of the tablet at least a week before any future launch date.
According to Samsungs lawyer, Neil Murray, Apple is basing its legal arguments on a US version of the Galaxy tablet, which is different from the one that will be sold in Australia. Clearly this is one contest that is not going to be resolved quickly.
