New data from Nielsen shows Games comprise the most popular app category in USA market. Up to 93 per cent of users who have downloaded games related apps in USA during the last 30 days, ending on 6th July, are willing to pay for their games, whereas in the category of news apps, only 76 per cent of the users are willing to pay.
The survey also indicates that BlackBerry users are least likely to download new games, as they prefer to play the pre-loaded games only. During the last 30 days, ending on 6th July, the maximum numbers of games were downloaded on phones running Windows 7 or Android OS.
The average mobile gamer in USA plays an average of 7.8 hours a month. The most avid gamers are those who own those elite iPhones from Apple. The survey indicates that iPhone users tend to play around 14.7 hours each month while those with Android smartphones play around 9.3 hours per month.
All trends are indicating that gaming on mobile phones is set to become one of the biggest businesses. With consumers willing to pay for quality gaming apps, there is much revenue to be garnered.
Earner Gartner Inc. had come up with its report saying that gaming will reach $112 billion by 2015. While the money spent on gaming in 2011 will exceed $74 billion in 2011, a growth of 10.4 per cent from the previous year when the gaming expenditure was estimated at $67 billion.
Major smartphone makers like Sony Ericsson have clearly understood the potential of the gaming market. Recently, Sony launched a Play Station certified mobile phone called Xperia Play, which is exclusively geared to cater to the needs of the gaming buffs.
